Whatcha gonna do when things go wrong?
Whatcha gonna do when it all cracks up?
Whatcha gonna do when the love burns down?
Whatcha gonna do when the flames go up?
We asked these questions way back in 2010, when we started a blog about ending our marriage and reconfiguring our family dynamic as co-parents. We learned a lot about each other back then, determined as we were to keep our kids on track toward healthy, self-sufficient adulthood.
And now, as our youngest nears his 18th birthday, it feels like we all boarded the wrong train.
Over the last 13 years, we've watched as the systems around us have crumbled. And every parent—hell, every person—we know is struggling in one way or another to figure out why the empty-nested oasis we spent years parenting toward turned out to be a mirage.
So we've started a podcast about it. Sometimes, we’ll talk about parenting older kids, helping older parents through the dysfunctional systems around them, and learning to be a decent older person in the clutches of late-stage capitalism. Or we'll talk to guests about specific topics—from anxiety, to colleges, to finessing the health care system for your dad, to perimenopause, to coping with grief, and all the other crap that just kind of snuck up on us. We'll do sponsored episodes and posts about things we think are useful. And we'll keep the chat open, so we can build a community of shared experience and acquired wisdom.
We are happy to serve you, as we all navigate estate planning, or prep for our colonoscopies, or wonder quietly where we’ve seen that actress before.
Please subscribe and tell your friends to subscribe and tell their friends to subscribe. And so on.
Love,
Magda and Doug
